I find it funny that all of you would think it would be on a ps2/ps3. The ps2 is outdated and can't handle a modern game in the slightest, and there is no denying that. The ps3 is selling so poorly I seem to doubt they would risk putting it on a system like that. The logical choice would be the 360, or possibly the Wii, just without any use of motion control.

The logical choice would be to keep GW as a PC only title.

Another problem with that is that I now add 400 dollars every two months to play it, since that seems to be the average X box 360 lifetime.

Anyway, this isn't a 360 vs Ps2 vs the baby toy- I mean, Wii, thread. Guild Wars For console would significantly dumb down the gameplay. While PC exclusive titles are dying, does that mean that's a good thing?

I saw a comparison of the Sims and the Urbz done on this thread.

I've played the Sims2 on my PC a long while now. I tried it on the console version. The gameplay was dumbed down to an idiotic point, and it was very hard to control the aspects of parts of the game, especially building and buying.

People just don't want to play PC games anymore because everyone thinks PC's are the old and broken residue that lie in the Ps1 and the X Box. What they miss is the fact that PC's give you a new angle of gameplay that consoles can't replicate.

So what if they make a console game where Gwen where's a double D bra? (comparitivly by today's sick game market.) Slightly Graphics and oversexing games is not a worthy sacrifice for the angle a PC gives you.

For all the people that claim MMOs won't / can't work on a console (To many to quote).

Have any of you heard about umm Final Fantasy 11? That was released on Ps2 and PC at the same time and allows both platforms to play together. Then it was also released on Xbox 360, which uses the same servers.

Both these consoles support a USB keyboard to type, 360 version also includes voice chat.

And it works fine with a control pad and there is a lot more to click / select than GW since you can have more than 8 skills at one time, you can set up a lot of macros, you have to use a lot of menus.

It may not be the most popular MMO in the world but it's still going and it's been around for about 3 years now (Possibly longer i'm not sure), not to mention it's also had at least 3 expansions in that time.

So consoles not suited for MMOs / harmful to them? I don't think so.

I played this on PC not a console but I have several friends that prefered it on Ps2 / 360.

Also you have to remember console games are optimised for 1 set of hardware, so if you buy an MMO (Or any game for that matter) you know it will run without the risk of having to upgrade hardware / fiddle with your graphic settings.

Wii and the 360 are out of the equasion because NCSoft signed an exclusive agreement with Sony.
PS3 may not be selling as well as the competition but we're still talking millions of consoles who' owners are starved of good new games

I'd kind of want to see The World made as a "real" MMO before GW gets console-ported, but I guess that's a bit much to ask of any game development team out there...

/sigh

Hold on, select 8 skills, follow target, switch weapon sets, open stuff like maps friend list etc. etc. and above all quick ingame chat. How many buttons can you have on a controller?

And then I'm not even mentioning in game chat (or is it already possible to use vent on the ps3?)

Anyway, how many people does xbox live have? With gold offcourse, less than WoW, I know that, prob about as much as GW, an MMORPG just doesn't work if you have so little people to buy your product.
Seeing as how you can communicate via microphone over Madden, I'm fairly sure they'll be able to let you talk via GW if it comes out on PS3 heh

Google Playstation usb adapter. I use this one, or one like it:http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation...QQcmdZViewItem

I don't think GW2, and certainly not GW is coming to console, but who knows what will happen between now and 2009/2010. The PCGamer article on the other hand mentions that ANet wants to simplify the gameplay and skill system, and add jumping/swimming to Guild Wars 2.

I think NCSoft is developing for consoles, not neccessarily ANet. Guild Wars requires fairly complex controls at the moment compared to other console games. It's my understanding that the design team at ANet have all created PC games, not console games.

The PS3 is selling poorly due to price, not due to performance. How many people in it's demographic have $600 to drop on it? Now, the good news, I just saw them going for $499 at a bestbuy near my house. If you put a popular game such as Guild Wars on it, that's only going to help it's sales, and thus, lower it's price. The PS3 is superior to the 360. Why put it on the 360 and limit yourself as opposed to the PS3?

You answered your own question, the 360 is cheaper, not to mention it has a larger user base. Developers don't always pick a console because it's the most powerful. They look at other areas why make a game for a console that is the most powerful if only a small percentage of the market have one?

Ok people might start saying "I'd buy a Ps3 if it has a GW game on it" well I don't believe you, why the hell would you pay so much money just to play 1 game? Especially when a lot of people play GW since there are no monthly fees.

Also look at the Wii technicially it's the lowest spec console and it's selling the most, which further proves that more power isn't always best.

I also remember reading that the Ps3 is the hardest console to develop on and remember the 360 isn't to different from a PC so it's a lot easier to port PC games to it.

Granted it still won't come to 360 in anycase if they signed a deal with Sony.

The Wii is selling due to the novelty. It'll stop like Pong did. As for Why people would buy it, that's how people are. The more the good games, the more the demand. Besides, the PS3 is only going to come down in price. That's the only thing saving the 360. Most people are too short sighted to realize what the PS3 is. Most people look at it as JUST a gaming console. Go out, price a gaming console (PS2, or 360), a Blu-Ray DVD player, MP3 player, and stereo. Then tell me how much all that costs. Then look at the price of the PS3 again. Suddenly, it's not so bad.

If there's anything coming for consoles from NCsoft, it will be PS3 because of the deal they made with Sony.

I pray that ArenaNet won't be doing a PS3 game.

PS3 is a terrible console. If it wasn't for the Wii and Xbox 360, it would have destroyed console gaming and caused a crash.

ArenaNet is extremely talented, and I would like to see this talent really be put to good use. I think a new PC game would be better than a PS3 game.

People said the same thing about the DS, that it was a novelty and people would stop buying it....

I understand that but the thing is what if people have no interest in all those extra features? Also you know that the Ps2 plays DVDs? And the 360 will play DVDs and MP3s as well? (It will also play HD-DVD if you buy the add on)

The only new thing the Ps3 really does it BluRay and personally i'm not ready to change my media format from DVD to BluRay just yet, and i'm not the only one. I mean what if BluRay doesn't take off?

I know it's still pretty much unheard of here in the Uk, and not many places stock media on BluRay so getting a Ps3 to act as a player is pointless.

I hate to break it to ya (and I don't want this thread to turn into a console wars thread), but the Wii won't just stop selling. It will eventually sell a lot more than the PS3 and Xbox 360, eventually it will have a much bigger userbase than Xbox 360 and PS3 combined.

No, read it again:

Quote:
We know Guild Wars 2 is coming, but could there be a console port in the cards? A new non-MMO game from the studio? Is there anything else ArenaNet is working on? Miller responded to my question with a laugh and said, "Without specifically naming anything, I can say yes, there is."
When Miller said yes, it could have been an answer to any of those questions. And those questions were:

Is there a console port?
Is there a new non-MMO game from ArenaNet?
Is there anything else ArenaNet is working on?

Miller said yes, but we don't know if he said yes to the console port thing. I can't imagine why ArenaNet would be doing a console port, they are PC devs, not console devs. If there was a port, it would have been done by another studio, I think.

Personally? I think he said yes for "is there anything else Anet is working on".
